FIVE local charities in Wrexham are benefitting from thousands of pounds thanks to a local cereal factory.

Kellogg’s, based on Bryn Lane in Wrexham, has donated £5,000 to worthy local causes with the funds divided between five groups chosen by the factory’s own employees.

Dynamic, Hope House, Nightingale House, Llangollen Canal Boat Trust and the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital each received a £1,000 donation from the cereal giant.

With two-thirds of smaller charities reporting they have already made “significant” cuts to services due to COVID-19, the team at Kellogg’s is hoping their donations will go some way to support them at this difficult time.

Adrian Maddocks, area lead operator at Kellogg’s Wrexham factory said: “One of the charities we’ve donated to is the Veterans' Orthopaedic Service at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital. I was lucky enough to be referred to the veteran’s facility in Gobowen when I had a knee injury after being in the Royal Navy for 10 years.

"Many veterans work at the factory and when we were asked which charities we wanted to donate to, we were eager to support the Veterans' Orthopaedic Service and their current project to build a new facility.”

Another charity Kellogg’s employees chose to support is the Vale of Llangollen Canal Boat Trust, which organises narrow boat trips for disabled and disadvantaged people.

Tom Lewis, chairman of the Vale of Llangollen Canal Boat Trustees said: “On behalf of the trustees and volunteers at the Vale of Llangollen Canal Boat Trust I send sincere thanks to Kellogg’s for the fantastic donation of £1,000.

"As with many small charities that rely solely on donations for their running income, we have been hit extremely hard by the impact of Covid-19.

"This money will help the Trust to provide day trips to local disabled and disadvantaged people for many years to come.”

In addition to the recent monetary donations, the factory last week made a number of food donations to local charities to mark World Food Day.

This included deliveries being made to Cefn Mawr School Breakfast club, Gwersyllt CP School Breakfast Club, Llay CP School Breakfast Club, the Salvation Army, Hafod Y Wern School Breakfast club, Wrexham Food Bank and Dynamic.
