I’m in wholehearted agreement with last week’s headline, Let’s Buy British.

Whilst shopping in a nearby country shop a week or so ago a large cauliflower caught my eye – labelled ‘farm fresh’.

I bought it and it was only when I removed it from its polythene bag that I saw: country of origin – Poland.

I felt I’d let down our hard-working country people.

Presumably the wages of those working on the land there, producing mushrooms, are so low that despite the costs of flight etc, the UK business people can still retail at a profit.

Maybe there are other ways UK can support Poland’s economic development, but not at the expense of our own local agriculture.

Perhaps we all need to check labels carefully before purchasing goods.
