A MAN was caught drug driving after giving in to peer pressure to take cocaine, a court has heard.

Adam McDonald admitted driving while over the drug limit when he appeared before Hereford Magistrates Court on September 30.

Jim Mason, prosecuting, said police in an unmarked car had stopped McDonald after spotting him driving on Victoria Street in Hereford just before 5pm on April 19.

The 25-year-old was arrested after he failed a roadside drug test and admitted recently using cocaine.

An evidential blood test revealed he had 388 microgrammes of cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine per litre of blood. The legal limit is 50.

Emma Thorne, mitigating, said McDonald, who is from Kineton Close, Redditch, had driven to Hereford to pick up some car parts.

"He stopped at Asda for petrol and the police pulled up alongside him," Mrs Thorne said.

"He was truthful with police. He said he had used cocaine the day before, about 14 hours before driving, and did not feel impaired.

"He is really disappointed in himself and is not a regular drug user. He only took it that night because it was offered to him, and there was a bit of peer pressure."

The court heard a mandatory roads ban would mean the carpet courier would not be able to continue in his job and that he was looking for different work.

McDonald was disqualified from driving for 12 months and fined £120. He must also pay costs of £135 and a £34 victim surcharge.
