UPDATE (Tuesday, September 6, 11.30am): The alert for the river Lugg has been withdrawn. Alert for river Leadon is still in force.

A NEW flood alert has been issued for Herefordshire.

The Environment Agency is warning people to expect flooding along the river Lugg south of Leominster.

It follows prolonged heavy rain over the weekend.

Flooding is expected to affect low-lying land and roads along the River Lugg south of Leominster from Stoke Prior to Mordiford.

Other places that may be affected include Bodenham, Lugwardine and Hampton Bishop.

Further rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours, and the Environment Agency expects river levels to remain high over the next 24 hours.

It says people should avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded.

A flood alert for the river Leadon catchment that was issued over the weekend remains active.

The Environment Agency says flooding is affecting low-lying land and roads along the river Leadon.

Places that may be affected include Ledbury, Much Marcle, Staunton and Tibberton.

Water may be over the road at Upleadon Court.

Further showers are possible the next 48 hours and rain is also forecast on Thursday (October 8).

River levels have peaked and will remain steady, with no further rise forecast.

Flood warnings for the rivers Wye and Frome have now been removed.

Flood alerts are issued by the Environment Agency and mean flooding is possible and people should be prepared. A flood warning means flooding is expected and immediate action should be taken.
