People are being asked for their views on plans to build extra units at a business park near Newtown.

A pre-planning consultation period will open next week as Powys County Council looks to develop Abermule Business Park.

The site already has outline planning permission for the provision of six units, but the scheme has been altered to create a greater number of smaller units.

The council said the proposed new units would "better suit the needs of the local economy and assist with start-up business".

Basic infrastructure construction work at the site was completed several years ago and the construction of a a waste recycling centre in the rural village is currently underway despite local opposition.

Councillor Phyl Davies, cabinet member for property, said: “The proposed scheme for a number of small business units gives us the opportunity to invest further in Abermule and boost small scale economic delivery.

“The site has been allocated within the development plan for a number of years and Powys County Council is keen to see the delivery of this project for the benefit of the local economy and to provide support for new enterprises".

The units on the council-owned site will be available for rent, and the local authority will continue to manage the site after the construction has been completed.

The pre-planning consultation opens on Monday, September 28, and will close on Monday, October 26.

Consultation documents will be available to view at Abermule Community Centre during their opening hours for the duration of the four-week consultation, and online at www.powys.gov.uk/abermulebusinesspark along with details of how to make representations regarding the scheme.
