A LLANIDLOES newsagent and town councillor has been nominated for an award for supporting the community during the coronavirus lockdown.

Trudy Davies has been nominated for The Royal British Legion Covid-19 Community Response Award in the ‘Individual Impact’ category.

The selection panel received over 70 inspiring nominations across five award categories.

They detailed stories of support, care, innovation and creativity as Legion volunteers, members and supporters helped in our wider communities across the world throughout the pandemic.

A spokesperson for the Covid-19 Community Response Awards Working Group said that after a lot of deliberation, the selction panel were “thrilled” that Trudy’s nomination has been chosen to go through to the final stage.

Trudy said she is “really honoured” to have been considered for the award.

“It’s brilliant news and I’m absolutely amazed that someone nominated me for this award.

“I consider my legion volunteering as a top probity in my my life as all veterans and their family’s deserve all the support and help we can give them at any times but especially at this time when most of our older veterans have had to be self isolated.”

The Covid-19 Community Response Award scheme aims to recognise the outstanding community activities that members, volunteers and supporters have delivered in the name of the Royal British Legion in response to the pandemic, achieving a significant contribution to a local community or individual.

Each winner will receive a trophy to mark their contribution and an invitation to one of the legion’s high profile events in 2020 or 2021, provided the Covid-19 pandemic is contained.

The winners will be announced in September.
