Community award for Sian

The winner of the inaugural Berriew Show President’s Community Award is Sian Emberton.

She received many nominations and fulfilled entirely the criteria for the award, by “giving selflessly to the community during 2020”, show president Karen Kirkwood said.

Ms Emberton was the driving force behind a scheme helping patients in the village receive medications by enlisting the help of others, all while continuing her job at a local medical surgery.

“Sian has been a huge support and touched the lives of many people with this kind and generous service,” the show president said.

The announcement was made on August 29, the day that Berriew Show would have been held, but was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Show president Ms Kirkwood added: “Yet out of adversity many of us have been touched by acts of kindness, without which our struggles would have been made even harder.

“It was for this reason that the Berriew Show committee decided to introduce a new award for 2020 to recognise in some way the actions of those who have helped the community in an extraordinary way.

“Berriew Show would also like to thank all those who took the trouble to put forward a nomination for the award and also to thank most sincerely all the other nominees who have given selflessly and generously to the community during this particularly difficult period”.

Ms Emberton will be presented with her award together with £100 for her to donate to a charity of her choice.
