A MUM has been left with a bleed on her brain and several broken bones after a car ploughed into shoppers at a farm shop in Worcestershire.

Nicola Weir was shopping at Broomfields Farm Shop, Holt Heath, near Worcester, with her eight-year-old son Kyle when they were hit by a car.

She was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, where she remains. Her son suffered bruising and concussion, a family member said.

Mrs Weir’s sister-in-law, Joanna Weir, said: “On Monday afternoon a car hit a number of people who had been shopping at Broomfields [farm shop].

"My sister-in-law and nephew were both hit by the lady driver and I believe she was airlifted to the QE with multiple injuries. Luckily, my nephew escaped with only concussion and bruises.

“My sister-in-law went into hospital with a bleed on the brain, a cracked spine and a broken pelvis.

"After MRIs they’ve since discovered that she has a bone broken in her neck which they need to operate on before they can do anything else. She will need help to walk again as her pelvis is broken in two places.

“Since Monday she has been in a neck brace and is not allowed or able to move. We want to know how this could have happened.”

Nicola Weir is from Droitwich, Worcestershire.

A third woman was also taken to hospital. A witness said they thought they saw her pinned to a tree by the car, although that has not been confirmed by the emergency services.

A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic accident on the A4133 in Holt Heath, Worcester, on Monday, August 31, at 11.59am.

“Three ambulances, a paramedic officer, a critical care paramedic and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham attended the scene and found three pedestrians who had been injured following a collision with a car.

“Two women suffered potentially serious injuries in the collision and received trauma care on scene before being taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham; one by air ambulance and one by land ambulance.

“A child was also assessed but found to have suffered minor injuries and was discharged on scene. The driver, a woman, was also assessed but was uninjured.”

The police were also called to the scene.

A West Mercia spokesman said: “We were called to a road traffic accident involving a single vehicle and pedestrians at Broomfields Farm Shop in Holt Heath.
