A village shop that has permanently closed due to devastating floods has donated its remaining stock to a food bank in Bishop’s Castle.

Sam and Lee Traylor of Your Bucknell Stores closed their business, which has supported the community throughout the coronavirus lockdown, for the final time last week.

Since getting in touch with a local county councillor, the Traylors have donated essential food items to the Bishop's Castle Food Bank which opened in April.

Ruth Houghton, councillor for Bishop's Castle, thanked the pair for their kind donation during difficult circumstances.

She said: "It is devastating news for Sam and Lee to lose their livelihood and for the local community in Bucknell to lose their village shop so we are extremely grateful for their kindness in thinking about the food bank at what must be a very difficult time.

"The food bank is very grateful for the generous donation which will be put to good use in the Bishop’s Castle and Clun areas.”

Bucknell councillor Nigel Hartin helped Sam and Lee make contact with Bishop’s Castle Food Bank through Councillor Houghton.

Cllr Hartin said: “Sam and Lee have nowhere to store the remaining stock so Sam asked me for contact details of the local foodbanks and I was happy to put her in touch with Bishops Castle Food Bank which I know has delivered tremendous support to residents in need in the Bishops Castle and Clun areas during the earlier lockdown”.

Bishop’s Castle Food Bank has is open on Wednesdays from 5pm to 6pm, and Fridays from 1.30pm to 3.30pm at the Methodist Church Hall, Station Street.

Anyone needing support but not able to get to the food bank can contact Andy on 07773 006413 to arrange for a home delivery.
