TWO gyms in Herefordshire will remain closed for the foreseeable future, Halo Leisure has said.

The Bromyard Centre was gearing up to reopen in mid-August, but vandalism to the roof means the facility is likely to be closed until the end of the year.

Halo's regional manager for Herefordshire Alex Haines said it's frustrating as gyms in Hereford, Ledbury, Leominster and Ross-on-Wye reopened on July 25.

"It's still a bit frustrating we haven't been able to open a couple of our sites," he said.

"Bromyard still remains shut, that's because there's been vandalism to the roof.

"That's got to be rectified and that'll probably take most of the rest of the year to be rectified. It'll probably be the rest of this year that Bromyard will remain shut.

"It's a bit frustrating. We've got patchy damage on it which doesn't make it easy for quick solution.

"The layout doesn't lend itself to getting up there without safety measures in place so unfortunately it's going to take a bit longer.

The second centre not yet opened is in Kington, but this is due to issues with ensuring Covid secure guidelines can be followed.

"We won't be able to open Kington yet, the layout makes it difficult with social distancing to meet the Government guidance," Mr Haines added.

"But we are trying to work on something on some ways around some of it so we can get some people in there. We just haven't come up with that solution yet.

"With the Government guidance in place you need a couple of things to relax, and all you need is one or two things to change and all of a sudden you can open.

"The main thing is we've got the main facilities open across Herefordshire now, with the exception of Hereford Leisure Pool.

"With the pools open on Monday that makes a big difference to people I think."
