A road near Knighton that was damaged by flash flooding and has been worsened by further storms is expected to reopen in October.

Powys County Council says bad weather has further deteriorated the B4355 between Dutlas and Lloyney. From Saturday, September 12, the road will be closed for around four weeks while permanent repair work is carried out.

Cllr Heulwen Hulme, cabinet member for highways, said: “We are continuing our efforts to repair the structures as soon as possible, however this does require further road closures to carry out such major repair works as safely and quickly as possible.

“Arrangements for the school bus service will be in place during this closure to minimise disruption as much as possible.

County Times:

“Safety of the public and workforce in these situations is first and foremost in our minds. We would like to thank our residents for their continued understanding and cooperation. We apologise for any inconvenience that these road closures cause.”

Temporary works will enable the road to re-open on Thursday (September 3) for a limited time only, needing to be closed again on September 12.

A further closure is planned during October half term to undertake the works at Gwern y Gaufron culvert.

Residents have been told not to ignore road closure notices and safety signs, and to plan journeys in advance.
