South Shropshire residents have been told not to panic after reports of dog thefts in the area circulated on social media.
Inspector Nikki Roberts said: "No van stopped in Clun with 24 stolen dogs in it as posted on Facebook. Please don't panic. Dog theft has increased, but not as social media suggests".
West Mercia Police said it has only received two recent reports of dog thefts, which happened in the north of the county.
