Buses will replace train journeys between Craven Arms and Llanelli after a train fire and storm damage closed the Heart of Wales railway line.

Damage caused by a freight train fire at Llangennech in Carmarthenshire, and significant debris burying the track near Knighton has cancelled or suspended train services between Shrewsbury and Llanelli.

Transport for Wales says the disruption is expected to last until 2am on October 1.

County Times:

Buses and minibuses will operate along the whole of the Heart of Wales route which will mean one continuous bus journey, without the need to change buses at Llandrindod Wells.

The duration of road journeys may be considerably longer than the trains they replace, Transport for Wales added. The duration of a typical bus journey along the whole route is between six and seven hours.

Ticket easement will remain in place while the Heart of Wales line is closed.
