PROLIFIC Peter Scott proved Halesowen's hero after producing a momentous innings to secure his side a stunning one-wicket win over Ombersley in the Birmingham League's Graham Williamson Trophy.

Halesowen appeared destined for a hefty defeat when Scott arrived at the crease with his side already struggling at 59-5 in pursuit of Ombersley's 189-8.

The situation worsened as Halesowen slumped to 97-7 before Scott found a willing partner in James Rudge.

They took the score to 164-8 when Rudge was removed having made 25 and another wicket fell four runs later before Scott was joined by last man Eddie Rhodes.

The pair refused to budge and took Halesowen over the winning line by the slenderest of margins, reaching 193-9 with five balls to spare.

Scott's defiance saw him total 77 not out off 54 balls, that included seven fours and four sixes.

It took the shine off Nick Hammond's earlier efforts with the bat when he blasted 100 for Ombersley and together with Dave Brazier, who made 54, put on 134 runs for the fourth wicket.

Eddie Rhodes restricted the run rate with bowling figures of 3-26, Charlie Greening claimed 3-50 while man of the match Scott chipped in with 2-37.

Himley's hopes of success in Group Two are fast subsiding after they slumped to a seven-wicket reverse against Smethwick.

After electing to bat first, Himley simply failed to put anywhere near enough runs on the board as they were bowled out for a below-par 116.

Himley's prospects looked poor from the moment they lost in-form Worcestershire opening batsman Ollie Westbury for just four runs.

Opening partner James Lunn did manage to muster 36 but Smethwick made light of their task in reply.

Hasnain Mahmood hit 63 not out while Hamza Ahmed added 37, the pair producing 86 for the second wicket to provide the platform for victory.

The result means there are now four teams locked at the top of Group Four after Barnt Green easily beat previous leaders Kidderminster by a commanding 145-run margin.

The Green got themselves off to a flying start thanks to Warwickshire pinch hitter Ed Pollock who plundered a run-a-ball 47 while opening partner Ben Chapman-Lilley added 34.

They were both upstaged by wicketkeeper Amrinder Brar, who has arrived at the Green from Smethwick and soon made his mark with the bat by bludgeoning 102 not out off just 80 balls, his innings including 13 fours and three sixes.

Will Baker waded in with a further 38 not out as the Green posted a formidable 241-4 from their allotted 40 overs.

Kidderminster crashed to just 96 all out in reply, Jore Miszkowski making a modest top score of 36.

Strike bowler Andy Sutton caused the initial damage by taking 3-15 while Jacques Banton bagged 3-21, Robbie Shurmer mopping up with 2-17.

Bromsgrove's miserable campaign continued with a seventh straight defeat after suffering a three-wicket reverse against Barnards Green.

Worcestershire wicketkeeper Alex Milton made 55 while Freddie Fallows struck a further 29 as Bromsgrove recovered from being 34-4 at one stage to reach 149 all out.

Barnards Green opening bat Mahaaz Ahmed then laid the foundation for his side's victory with 65 while Will Tuffin with 3-44 and Alex Wilkinson who took 2-16 proving the pick of Bromsgrove's bowling attack.

Something has to give this coming weekend as Halesowen host Barnt Green while Kidderminster look to recover at Barnards Green.
