A 20-year-old committed three driving offences in a car he had only bought that day, a court heard.
Justice Dean, of Clatter Terrace, Clatter, admitted to drink driving, driving with no insurance, and driving without a licence at Welshpool Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.
He was stopped by police on July 24 in Penstrowed in Newtown on the A489.
Helen Tench, prosecuting, said police stopped the Green Ford Focus as it had its lights on full beam and then off altogether, the court heard.
In a roadside test, it was found he had 47micorgrammes of alcohol in 100millilites of breath, the legal limit being 35mgs.
Paul Inns, defending, told magistrates that Dean had purchased the car that day.
Mr Inns said that the defendant had a couple of drinks at a friend's party and that he "felt fine" but misjudged the amount of alcohol in his system, the court heard.
Magistrates banned him from driving for 14 months and offered him a drink-drive rehabilitation course. If competed, his disqualification will be reduced by two months.
He was also fined £230 and told to pay £85 in court costs and £34 in victim surcharge.
