POLICE are investigating after a man allegedly attempted to abduct an 11-year-old girl in Widnes.

An incident was reported on Lower House Lane, in the car park of the Halton Stadium, shortly after 7pm on Sunday, July 26.

Officers attended the scene and found that two men had been assaulted, with neither requiring hospital treatment.

No arrests have yet been made in connection with the reports, although a 35-year-old was interviewed under caution after voluntarily attending a police station.

Video footage circulated on social media shared online showed a man being accused of being a paedophile before he was punched to the ground.

Chief inspector Catherine Pritchard said: “I would like to reassure the public that this is believed to be an isolated incident, and we are currently looking at a number of lines of enquiry.

“We are also aware of a video circulating on social media of this incident, and we are asking that people should not share this as it forms part of an active investigation.”
