STORMY weather left home owners and drivers battling flash flooding, with the fire service receiving several calls for help.

In Hereford, there were eight flooding-related calls in the space of around two hours on Wednesday evening.

Several roads in the city were flooded, including the Asda roundabout where the A465 Belmont Road meets the A49 Ross Road.

A spokesperson for Peterchurch Fire Station said: "Three call outs to attend flooding at properties. Two in Ewyas Harold and then mobilised to Hereford, multiple properties affected by water coming through the ceilings.

"Fire control were hard at work dealing with multiple calls across the two counties."

Crews were also called out to various incidents across the border in Knighton and Presteigne.

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service's head of operational response for Powys Craig Thomas said it was a busy night for firefighters.

He said: "We were called to a number of incidents throughout the evening, and were quite busy in Rhayader and Knighton.

"There was a landslide caused by flash floods which led to six properties being flooded in Knighton so we were on hand to pump water away and give assistance to business and home owners affected.

"There were also a number of incidents in Llandrindod Wells so it was a busy night."

The fire service's incidents came on top of 33 call outs for highways teams.

Herefordshire Council said the calls on Wednesday night followed the thunderstorms and included nine fallen trees and 20 flood reports

A spokesperson said 28 were completed on site and the rest are still "in progress".
