FOUR casualties were treated at the scene of a major lorry crash on the M5 this afternoon.

The four people involved in the crash were treated by West Midlands Ambulance Service at the scene, though none were seriously hurt.

The lorry is thought to have jack-knifed and pushed two other vehicles through the central barriers on to the other side of the motorway.

All three emergency services attended the crash at 2pm.

A spokesman for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 2.16pm three crews attended a road traffic collision involving an articulated lorry and two cars on the M5 southbound, junction 7 to 8.

"A fuel leak from the HGV was contained and four casualties were checked by paramedics."

A spokesman for West Mercia Police said: "Regarding this incident, the M5 southbound from junction 7 will remain closed for road surface repairs.

"Fortunately, there were no serious injuries. We are working to release the trapped traffic."

Traffic is backed up for four miles on the M5, according to Highways England.

A statement said: "We have closed the M5 at junction 7 Worcester South southbound. The northbound has two lanes running past the scene. Expect delays on approach.

"All customers within the closure please note we have released traffic at the front of the scene and you should be moving shortly.

"There are delays of 45 minutes above normal on the M5 northbound between J8-J7 due to this collision.

"Almost four miles of slow moving traffic. Delays southbound remain at 30 minutes above normal."
