WORK is well under way on a new cycle track in Evesham’s Charity Brook Park.

Wychavon is investing £37,500 in creating the Pump Track, which will allow novice riders of any age build confidence and skills on a bike away from traffic. Experienced cyclists can also use it to enhance their skills without putting others at risk.

The design and tarmac surface mean it will also be appropriate for skateboards and mini wheels.

Clark & Kent Contractors Ltd is carrying out the work which began at the end of June and is expected to take six weeks to complete.

The track replaces the previous one, which had been in place for 10 years, but had to be closed in November 2018 on safety grounds as it had become rotten.

A public consultation revealed there was strong feedback from users for replacing the track.

Cllr Emma Stokes, executive board member for environment and street scene on Wychavon District Council, said: “This is another example of Wychavon investing in our parks and open spaces.

"This will be a fantastic facility that has been designed so it can be enjoyed a wide range of users, not just bike riders.”
