THE daughter of a motorcyclist who was killed in a crash have described him as “an amazing person”.

Nicholas Bailey was riding on the B2028 Turners Hill Road near Crawley Down on the evening on Thursday, June 25.

The 74-year-old suffered serious injuries after his red Kawasaki collided with a blue Vauxhall Astra shortly before 9pm.

Nicholas, who lived in the village, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His daughter Nicola Bailey has paid tribute to her father and said: “My dad was an amazing person, truly one in a million.

“He was well known locally and had many friends.

“He was well-thought of due to his honesty, hard work and high standards. Always willing to lend a hand to any of his friends and family.

“He was a brilliant dad and fantastic grandpa, we are truly blessed to have had him.

“His loss will leave a huge hole, and our lives will never be the same.

“Without doubt, the strongest man I have ever known, in every respect of the word.”

The driver of the Vauxhall Astra, a 72-year-old man from Crawley, sustained minor injuries in the crash.

He was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving, and has been released under investigation, pending further enquiries.

Police recently launched a summer crackdown on drink and drug-drivers, with increased patrols across Sussex and Surrey until July 13.

Chief Inspector Michael Hodder, of the Surrey and Sussex Roads Policing Unit, said: “Our priority is to keep everyone as safe as possible on our roads, and to deal robustly with anyone who compromises the safety of themselves or anyone else.

“Drink and drug-driving destroys lives, it’s as simple as that.

“While the vast majority of motorists drive safely and responsibly, there continues to be a small minority who think they are above the law. Whether you ‘feel fine’ or were ‘just around the corner’, we’ve heard every excuse in the book. But there’s no excuse for ever driving under the influence of drink or drugs.”

Officers are still appealing for witnesses to the crash in which Nicholas was killed. Anyone who saw what happened, or anyone with dash cam footage which captured the incident or events leading up to it, is urged to email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk, quoting Operation Bavian.
