CAFOD volunteer, Jane Davies, at St Michael and All Angels Parish of Belmont Abbey in Hereford has decided to stop despairing and make a difference instead.

Jane has not walked for more than three miles at a time for many years, but now after turning 60, with achy hips and knees, Jane is in training.

Jane is aiming to walk 20 miles, to support CAFOD, an organisation that provides practical help, via local Church communities throughout the world, concentrating on building development rather than dependence.

Jane said:" Yesterday I managed 10 miles – yeah!

"I am going to choose a cooler day and mainly flattish paths for my 20 mile walk (with no public toilets open)!!

"Not for me running a marathon or cycling 50 miles I’m afraid – but I can walk.

"I feel I must do something because I cannot forget. They are all God’s precious children and they are imprinted on my heart, I fear for them.

"In these strange lockdown weeks of isolation I have been so conscious of the still developing countries and wondering how on earth they will cope with Coronavirus."

CAFOD respects local customs and builds relationships while teaching skills. They are independent of government agencies, they openly publicise where each penny donated goes and will honour any request for a donation to go to a specific project.
