A PEACEFUL Black Lives Matter protest was held in Ross-on-Wye today.

It followed a similar demonstration in Hereford on Thursday, and all around the world following the death of a black man at the hands of police in America last month.

The protest in Ross was in the Market Place over lunchtime.

Demonstrators had been asked to observe social distancing rules. Many wore face coverings.

Yesterday (Friday) Health Secretary Matt Hancock urged people not to attend large gatherings while coronavirus remained a serious threat.

His plea was ignored by the thousands who took part in protests around the country today.

The protests began George Floyd, 46, died after a white policeman knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes in Minnesota, refuelling anger about police brutality against black people.
