PRIME Minister Boris Johnson has announced up to six people can meet outdoors from Monday.

Announcing the further easing of the lockdown, the PM said he recognised the toll lockdown had taken with "family and friends unable to see each other".

But he said from June 1 six people can meet in public spaces and private outdoor spaces, such as gardens, as long as those from different households stay two metres apart.

"These changes means friends and family will start to meet loved ones," the PM said at this afternoon's daily press conference, adding it is a "long awaited and joyful moment".

But the PM has stressed people must still act responsibly, warning against too many households meeting in quick succession, and stressing people were still not allowed to be inside homes of friends and families.

It had already been announced that, from Monday, schools in England will reopen to more children and some retail stores including car sales are allowed.

The "track and trace" new system launched earlier today, but there were reports the system has already suffered technical problems.
