A FURTHER 16 people have died in hospitals in our region after testing positive for coronavirus.

Figures published on Tuesday afternoon confirm a total of 1,566 people have died in hospitals in the North-East and North Yorkshire.

Four NHS trusts in our region reported no change to the number of Covid-19 patient deaths but the figures are somewhat higher than yesterday's.

Figures published on Bank Holiday Monday revealed a further three people in our region had died from the virus while in hospital.

It comes as further 116 people have died in hospitals in England in the past 24 hours.

A spokesperson for NHS England said: "A further 116 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 25,866.

"Patients were aged between 50 and 100 years old.  One of the 116 patients (aged 71) had no known underlying health condition. Their families have been informed."

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust – 114 was 110

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust –  223 no change 

South Tyneside & Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust - 317 was 313 

Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – 110 was 109 

York Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust –  201 was 198

Harrogate and District NHS Foundation Trust –  63 was 61 

Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) –  7 no change 

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (mental health) – 7 no change
