The boss of a local care company has told how she has introduced her own reward scheme after seeing the success of the Hereford Times Health and Social Care Awards.

Hattie Hayes, of Katherine Harriet Bespoke Home Care in Hereford, was one of the initial enthusiastic supporters and sponsors of the HSC awards.

But even she has been taken aback by how successful they have been in doing what they were set up to do – boosting morale by bringing recognition for staff and celebrating the best in the sector.

“We’ve developed a staff incentive scheme in the business by introducing a monthly reward scheme in the style of the awards.

“It makes staff feel good; that they have achieved something.

“We reward staff who have gone above and beyond the call of duty. We celebrate it, and it’s worked very well.”

Katherine Harriet employs more than 60 staff providing care at home for about 85 clients, most of them over 70.

Last year the business won the Trainer of the Year category and Hattie says that’s been a help with recruitment because people want to join a company where they know they will get good training and there is a quality team.

“The awards have been very positive. I think it’s been really successful. It has grown in numbers and it has grown in awareness.

“It’s also been good to sit around the table with other providers in the sector.”
