A COMMUNITY group in Herefordshire are giving back to those on the frontline of the coronavirus battle by helping create comfortable rest areas for NHS staff across the county.

Herefordshire Community Recycling Raising Money For Local Charities received an overwhelming response after they launched an appeal for plastic garden furniture last week.

Group spokesperson Andrew Wood said more than 100 chairs and tables donated to the appeal have been taken to Hereford County Hospital, where councillor Gemma Davies and Dawn Scull of Wye Valley NHS Trust are creating a number of outdoor rest spaces for staff.

Hereford Times:

But the group has no intention of stopping there, with plans in place to help create similar rest areas at NHS sites, pharmacies and care homes across the county.

In addition to chairs and tables, they are also asking people to donate any unwanted parasols and bases, drinking glasses and cutlery, especially tea spoons for the staff areas.

Andrew said: "I just want to say a really big thank you to everyone who has helped with the donations of chairs, tables, glasses, cutlery, parasols etc for the NHS staff rest areas, we are delivered over 100 chairs and tables so far, we now have another load of about 100 with more to collect tomorrow and Wednesday.

"I would also like to help the care homes and their terrific staff for what they are doing, so if you have contacts at the care homes across Herefordshire please ask them if we can help with tables and chairs so they can create their own rest areas.

"Let’s keep what we are doing going as it’s a great way of thanking and helping all our hard working key workers. Special thanks must go to Dawn Scull who got me involved in this project."
