AN EASTLEIGH man died after being hit by a train near Winchester, an inquest heard.
Raghotham Kumar Gajula, 36, was pronounced dead at the scene at Shawford Station on March 31.
Reading a report to Winchester Coroner's Court, area coroner Jason Pegg said the incident happened as the train was on its way to London Waterloo when passing through Shawford.
Mr Pegg said the driver saw a man fall from the platform.
The coroner added: "The driver attempted to put on the emergency brake but it was too late."
A post mortem report by pathologist Dr Belvinda Shoker states the preliminary cause of death as multiple injuries.
The full inquest into the death of Mr Gajula, who lived in Cable Street, will be held on October 21.
