HEREFORD Food Bank has received a £10,000 donation from Hereford City Council to help meet demand during the coronavirus outbreak.

The council has also donated £7,000 to the City of Hereford Rotary to support their programme of sending food packages to families in need.

The cheques sent today (Tuesday) were on top of the four donations of £10,000 each to community sports and youth groups hit by the recent floods.

The Town Clerk said: “In the last two months we have made emergency payments to our community groups of £57,000 to support them firstly with the flood crisis and now to two groups who are pulling out all the stops to help with food distribution in the Covid-19 outbreak."

The Mayor and Chair of Hereford City Council said: “In this time of unprecedented crisis the City Council want to do anything they can to support volunteer groups that are working so hard to help vulnerable residents.

"There is a real need out there and it is essential that we provide immediate financial support to the Hereford Foodbank and Rotary Family Assistance Scheme.”

"Many of our staff and councillors are also personally involved in food distribution, prescription collection and other local initiatives to look after those most vulnerable.”
