HEREFORDSHIRE Council is considering postponing or cancelling meetings due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Speaking at today’s (March 16) children and young people scrutiny committee, chairman Carole Gandy said a meeting scheduled for May at which they wanted young carers to attend could be cancelled.

She made the remarks while discussing the minutes of the meeting held on January 14.

“Members will be aware that we wanted to invite to that meeting a couple of young carers. Unfortunately, that was not possible.

“We then rearranged that meeting for another date which coincided with the half term holiday that had to be cancelled due to the flooding.

“We’ve now rearranged another date for the 29th of May for members but again that could well be cancelled due to the present virus situation.”

Councillor Felicity Norman also said it was uncertain what format meetings would take in future while she discussed opening performance meetings to all councillors.

She said: “Clearly the situation we are in at the moment is putting all this in doubt.

“Whether we are going to have meetings of any kind is sort of not clear or what form they are going to take.”

Councillors Paul Andrews, Kath Hay and co-optees Pat Burbidge and Andy James sent their apologies that they would not be attending the meeting.

“Some of those are involved in other meetings regarding the present coronavirus.” Coun Gandy said.

Officers also said there may be delays to reports expected to be presented at future meetings.
