THE A49 is closed south of Hereford after a crash involving two cars and a lorry near Much Birch.

West Midlands Ambulance Service has taken two patients to hospital, and assessed a third at the scene, near Laskett Lane.

Traffic website Inrix said traffic is heavy in the area as drivers avoid the area, with congestion on the B4348 towards Wormelow.

They added the Stagecoach service 33 is on diversion.

“We were called at 11:40am to reports of a collision involving two cars and a lorry at Laskett Lane in Much Birch," an ambulance service spokesperson said.

"Two ambulances and a paramedic officer attended the scene. Upon arrival, crews were presented with three patients.

"We treated a man, who was the driver of one of the cars, for injuries not believed to be serious. He was taken to Hereford County Hospital for further treatment.

"The second patient, a woman, who was driving the other car, was also treated for injuries not believed to be serious and taken to Hereford County Hospital.

"The driver of the lorry was assessed and discharged at the scene.”

The road remains closed.
