Hereford Community Adopted Area Group was launched in January to run alongside the HCCUG litter picking programme.

You can find the new group page on Facebook.

HCCUG and Emma Jones run regular group litter picks on Sundays and Wednesday mornings.

However despite a large FB membership, these times don't suit everybody and the group needed to get more people involved and more importantly out litter picking and tiding up the city of Hereford.

The scheme is simple, you adopt an area in the city, it can be it where you live or work or an area you pass through regularly, and then you litter pick that area at a time and day that suits you.

The group can put you in touch with others in the same area or you can use the group to request help.

Emma keeps a list of areas covered and by who, so you don't have to do it alone, of course you can also recruit friends or family.

The scheme is supported by Herefordshire council Stop the Drop, who are able to provide you with litter picking equipment.

Balfour Beatty collect the rubbish bags once secured, left in suitable place and reported to them.

With a strong start to the group, an active Face Book page and group chat, members collected 123 bags of rubbish in January.

58 bags by the new adopters, alongside 65 bags from group picks.

The first weekend in February has already seen the adopters litter pick 28 bags across the city.
