IT IS 15 years ago this month that the 2004 Herefordshire Sports Council awards were held in February 2005.
Councillor Polly Andrews, the Mayor of Hereford at the time, welcomed guests to the ceremony on February 9 before handing over to Sports Council chairman Tony Larkin.
Mr Larkin said that when the sports awards were first staged for 1980, there were just two categories to present, the sports personality and junior sports personality of the year.
"Now, in the 25th year, we have nine awards and the presentation evening is a major event in the sporting life of Herefordshire," he added.
The awards were presented by BBC sports correspondent Mary Rhodes. The winners included blind football, cricket and goalball player Adrian Snellgrove, who picked up the disabled sports personality award.
Greyhound Rugby Club girls' under-16s were named as junior team of the year, club of the year was FC Phoenix and rower Daniel Middleton was junior sports personality of the year. Jennifer Goodman was named sportswoman of the year.
