CAFE at the End of the Universe has been named one of the best takeaways in the north west after reaching the final of the British Takeaway Awards.

The pop culture-inspired burger kitchen and takeaway at Warrington Market was shortlisted for the regional award but narrowly missed out on the title to Brothers Burgers in St Helens at a ceremony at the Savoy in London on Monday night.

Andy Kinsella's family business was selected after a combination of a public vote and a visit from a mystery shopper to judge the food.

The former Lymm High student said: "We were ecstatic to be revealed as finalist in the Just Eat British Takeaway Awards.

"It was voted for by customers so it's brilliant the people of Warrington helped get us to the final and made sure they have a Warrington takeaway representing the north west.

Warrington Guardian:

"Obviously we would of loved to have won, but a lot of winners have been previously nominated. So hopefully this is a stepping stone to come back next year and go one better.

"We're always committed to improving and seeing what the best places in Britain are doing has been inspirational.

"We know we have a big year in 2020 and hopefully with the new Warrington Market and Time Square development we can become even better. Watch this space."

As an industry worth more than £9billion, The British Takeaway Awards, which this year was hosted by Jimmy Carr, was set up to recognise the contribution takeaways make to the British economy.

Other north west finalists were LAPD Food in Stockport, Old Mothers Hubbards in Oldham and Shakes and Bites in Manchester.

The overall winner was Mexican takeaway Nacho Cheese in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
