ARMED police descended on Church Street after a man suffered serious injuries in a flat this morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 11.30am today, Tuesday, after receiving reports of concerns for a man’s welfare.
Police and paramedics attended the scene and found a man seriously injured inside an apartment on Birchwood Court, which is accessed via the alleyway between the Bulls Head and Tavern pubs.
He was airlifted to hospital, with Church Street having been temporarily closed in both directions while officers dealt with the incident.
The road was reopened by midday.
Four police cars – including armed units – and three ambulances were spotted on the scene, while the air ambulance landed nearby on St Elphin’s Park.
Cheshire Police are not treating the incident as suspicious, although enquiries are ongoing.
A force spokesman said: “At 11.32am on Tuesday, January 28, emergency services were called to reports of concerns for the welfare of a man on Church Street.

“Police and ambulances attended the scene, and a man was found inside a flat with serious injuries.
“The man has since been airlifted to hospital.
“As a result of the incident, a temporary closure was put in place on Church Street to enable air ambulance to land at the scene.
“Enquires are ongoing.
“At this stage the incident is not believed to be suspicious.”
