IT is one of the most spectacular sights in nature.
A huge flock of starlings wheels around in the dusk sky, putting on the most mesmerising display of movement.
The hypnotic patterns made by thousands of birds swooping in unison is called a murmuration.
This amazing video was shot by Paul Lloyd this week at Wellington gravel pits, near Hereford.
He said: "The starlings were in front, above and behind. There must of have been tens if not hundreds of thousands.
"What you cannot hear on the video is the noise of many thousands of starlings behind us!"
According to the RSPB, grouping together offers safety in numbers. Predators such as peregrine falcons find it hard to pick out one bird in a flock of thousands.
They also gather to keep warm at night and to exchange information about things such as good feeding areas.
