RESIDENTS have told of their shock after a number of parked cars were left damaged in a fail-to-stop crash in Weymouth.

The dramatic incident happened on Chickerell Road on Tuesday night and police are appealing for information.

It is reported that at around 9pm a silver Ford Mondeo crashed into parked cars, before the driver and passengers got out fled the scene. It is thought they may be seriously hurt.

One resident said he saw a group of people ‘leg it’ from the scene.

He said: “I heard a bang at around 9pm. There were four cars involved in the crash.

“Three people were in the car. I don’t know if police nabbed them or not, I think they legged it.

“By the time the fire brigade and the police turned up it was eight to nine minutes too late and they were gone.”

He said the silver Ford Mondeo was recovered by a tow truck on the same night.

Another resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I heard the crash – it was an enormous bang.

“Both my husband and I came outside. We couldn’t really see what was going on, but there were lots of people in the street.

“Then police came and sealed off the road.

“It must have been a bad crash because there was a pretty loud bang.”

Another resident said she only witnessed the aftermath of the crash.

She said: “I didn’t realise anything had happened until I came home and there was a fire engine on the street.

“There was another car there as well at the time. The damage was terrible.”

Police are appealing for information following the incident.

It is believed vehicle’s occupants could have sustained serious injuries and may require urgent medical attention.

PC Scott Thorne, of Weymouth and Portland police said: “I am appealing to anyone who may know the occupants of the vehicle to please contact me as I am concerned for their welfare and would like to ensure they are safe.

“I would ask anyone with any information about this incident to please come forward to Dorset Police.”
