A derogatory slur was sprayed across the entrance to the Rangers' training ground on early Saturday morning.

The "sectarian in nature" graffiti appeared on a sign at the entrance to the Hummel Training Centre at Auchehowie overnight.

It is believed the act of vandalism was cleaned off after it was discovered in the morning.

East Dumbartonshire Councillor Graeme McGinnigle slammed the vandalism in his ward.

He said: "This disgusting act of vandalism is clearly sectarian in nature in the run-up to the old firm.

"Those who think that this is an acceptable part of football are not real football fans and have no place in the game.

"With incidents like this and effigies being hung inside stadiums, it’s about time people got a grip.

"I would urge all supporters to behave accordingly over the weekend and enjoy the game."

Rangers also condemned the graffiti and stated they will use CCTV footage to attempt to identify the thugs.

A Rangers spokesman said: "We will examine CCTV footage to see if those people responsible can be identified.

"Sectarianism in whatever form it takes is unacceptable."
