THE FOURTH annual Presteigne and Norton community support Christmas fayre has taken place. The event, which was held at the Memorial Hall on November 29, raised money for the charity. There were more than 20 stalls including jewellery, clothing, gifts, and crafts. Community support organisers and volunteers served tea, coffee, mulled wine and mince pies to the scores of visitors.

A grand raffle with prizes made up of gifts and items donated by local shops and businesses was also held.

The popular event is the organisation's biggest fund raiser to help fund community support. The charity runs a community transport service to take people to the doctors, dentists and hospital appointments. They have volunteer drivers who pick up the client, take them to the appointment and wait for them and bring them home. The scheme operates within eight miles of Presteigne and covers areas such as Norton and New Radnor, as long as the clients are registered with the Presteigne doctor's surgery.

They can also take clients to Cardiff Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, Hereford and Llandrindod Wells Hospitals and for the past two years they have carried out trips for the Welsh Ambulance Service.
