CARRIER pigeons used by the Hereford Times to carry news messages in the 19th century will be a good addition to a Hereford museum because of their "interesting story".

The 14 pigeons include one who was named after a winning racehorse and another who mistakenly landed in Warwickshire.

They will now be displayed in the museum in Broad Street or resource centre in Friars Street.

"We do have some other taxidermy cases, but this has such an interesting story, that's the nice thing about it," said collection curator Catherine Willson.

"We like to try and collect things that have got a relevance to Hereford and that has a nice background story."
