IT costs Wye Valley NHS Trust nearly £1m a year to store medical records, new figures show.
That's double the costs of neighbouring hospitals trusts in Worcestershire and Shropshire.
The trust, which runs Hereford County hospital and community hospitals, spent £751,000 storing its records on site and £165,000 off site, according to figures from NHS Digital.
Hospital bosses say costs went up last year because the records had to be moved to make way for new wards.
There are so many records some have to be kept off site, but costs should come down in 2021 when the records are due to be stored electronically.
It should also make the record system more efficient.
