A DRIVER who crashed near Bromyard was still over the limit the morning after drinking, a court has heard.

Szymon Hamer, 37, admitted the offence when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

Nicola Ritchie, prosecuting, said police were called after Hamer rolled his car on the A465 at Cricks Green at 7.25am on September 28.

Hamer, who was the only occupant of the car, was unhurt.

A breath test revealed he had 47 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Hamer told police he had crashed his silver Honda Accord because he was going too fast in the wet conditions and admitted drinking the previous evening.

Emma Thorne, for Hamer, said he had stayed the night at a friend's house after they had been drinking with a friend the previous evening.

But he had struggled to sleep there and decided to drive home to Chestnut Way, Bromyard, and sleep in his own bed.

"He accepts it was wet, and he lost control of the car," Mrs Thorne said.

"It was a case of the morning after the night before, and it is clear that he had not waited long enough before getting into his car."

Hamer was fined £350 and disqualified from driving for 14 months. He must also pay £135 in costs and a £35 victim surcharge.
