THE new school year has got off to a great start at Lugwardine Primary Academy with the school achieving the Gold Level Award, School Games Mark.

The award scheme rewards schools for their commitment to and development of competition, school sport, physical education and physical activity.

Over the course of the last academic year, pupils at the school had the opportunity to take part in martial arts, yoga, tennis, forest schools and peer massage, in addition to their usual PE lessons. As well as this, pupils attended tournaments across the county and took part in the annual swimming gala.

During June the whole school took part in a Healthy Mind, Healthy Body week and learnt how to keep both mind and body healthy from a range of visitors to the school.

This academic year the children have continued with their healthy regime by taking part in a quick sticks hockey tournament.

The school will be linking the next whole school physical activity themed day to Children in Need with children and parents raising money by "working out" in sessions throughout the day.
