A MOTORCYCLIST was treated for serious injuries and airlifted to hospital after a crash closed the M50 this morning.

The M50 was closed in both directions at junction 1 for the M5 after the accident involving a grey Skoda car and a motorbike at around 8.30am.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said an off-duty paramedic was first on scene, and an ambulance, paramedic officer, critical care car and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham were sent to the scene.

Only one patient, a man in his late 50s, was treated by medics. He was the rider of the motorcycle and has been airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.

West Mercia Police said the crash was on the sliproad between junction 8 of the M5 and the M50.
