A TEENAGER lashed out at police after he was arrested has being drunk and disorderly in Carlisle.

Alexander Laird Philip, 18, was coming to the end of a night out in Botchergate, Carlisle, when he got into trouble and kicked out at one of the officers who were putting him in a police van.

The teenager's kick caught the officer in the chest, narrowly missing his head.

The court heard how the violence flared at 3am.

The officer who was kicked in the chest later said he does not expect to be assaulted when he goes to work.

The court heard that the teenager, of Etterby Street, Stanwix, had shown a lot of remorse.

Magistrates imposed 100 hours of unpaid work, and told him to pay his victim £100 compensation.

He must also a £90 victim surcharge.
