EMERGENCY repair works are needed to a railway bridge in order to maintain safety on the line from Hereford to Abergavenny.

Network Rail said masonry and steel repairs are needed to the bridge over Eign Road in Hereford.

Work is scheduled to take place from 9pm on Saturday (September 21) to 9am the following day.

Work will continue Tuesday to Thursday between 10pm and 7am.

The road will remain open, with temporary traffic lights in place.

In a letter sent to people living nearby, Network Rail said work needs to be done at night when trains are not running as safety is a key priority.

Staff are briefed to "work responsibly" in the local community, but some disturbance will be unavoidable.
