A MAN threw his pint across the bar of a Hereford pub after an argument about his change, a court has heard.

Kevin Charles Pritchard, 56, admitted one count of common assault when he appeared before magistrates in the city.

Shafquat Reaz, prosecuting, said police were called to reports of an assault at the Kerry in Commercial Road, Hereford, at about 2am on August 8.

The court heard that Pritchard, of Bodenham Road, Hereford, had become angry and aggressive after ordering a drink at the bar, believing he had been short changed by a barmaid.

He took hold of his pint and pushed it across the bar, causing it to hit the fridge behind her.

"She was shocked, and thought the glass was going to hit her," Mr Reaz said.

"She said she was scared, and that she could have been hit by the smashed glass. It was her first night in her new job."

He confirmed that she was not injured in the assault.

Emily Gourley, for Pritchard, said he accepted responsibility and apologised for his actions.

She said Pritchard, who works at Avara Foods, did not usually drink and had asked police to formally convey his apologies to the barmaid.

Pritchard was ordered to pay a £196 fine, costs of £135 and a £32 victim surcharge.
