COMMUNITY is the very heart and soul of Peterstow pub, the Yew Tree.

From simply serving as a meeting place for local residents to hosting the village fete and parish council meetings, the popular village inn is proud to play a vital part in the life of the community.

It is also home to a well supported and long established local darts team, who are provided with a branded team polo shirt as a thank you for representing the pub. This year, they are the ‘Headless Men’, named after one of the ciders the pub serves.

Local produce is of paramount importance to the business, which also runs an annual cider competition, partnering with producers from Herefordshire and beyond to sell donated cider in a bid to raise much-needed funds for local charities.

Albert Johnson said: “We stock Wye Valley Bitter and Hobson’s Best on our permanent draught lines, with rotating guest ales from local and national producers.

“We are run by the Ross on Wye Cider & Perry Co, so we feature all of their cider and perry in the pub and our cider shop, and also regularly stock spirits from Herefordshire producers such as Chase, Penrhos, and Wye Valley.

“All of our staff can give detailed information on our cider and perry’s provenance, production and ingredients, and we are Herefordshire CAMRA’s current Cider Pub of the Year.

“The pub is a proper drinker’s pub in the countryside at a time where that is hard. Our food evenings are exemplary, but it is for the community spirit and the relaxed atmosphere that our patrons most enjoy visiting.”

The pub is in the running for an award in this year’s Hereford Times Food and Drink Awards competition, which recognises proud local businesses.
