THE Brexit Party’s prospective parliamentary candidate for the North Herefordshire constituency has resigned.
Gareth Jones had been selected to fight for the seat currently held by Conservative Party MP Bill Wiggin.
But a party spokesperson confirmed he decided to stand down on August 23 citing personal reasons.
“He decided to stand down after he realised the level of commitment that the role required and the pressure it would put on other parts of his life.
“We didn’t find anything sinister or wonderful in his past. It was just a case that the work life balance wouldn’t work for him.”
The Brexit Party announced Mr Jones would be their candidate for the constituency on August 15.
The party said it would select a new candidate for the constituency in due course.
The constituency EU referendum result was 58.02% for Leave and 41.98% to Remain.
