A TEENAGER got cannabis in bulk to share with his friends, a court has heard.

Osian McCarthy of Canon Frome, Ledbury, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

Nicola Ritchie, prosecuting, said that on August 20 last year, information received by police had caused them to carry out a search of McCarthy's home.

Officers found cannabis, digital scales, and clear plastic bags at the property.

A mobile phone belonging to 18-year-old McCarthy contained a number of messages which were indicative of the supply of controlled drugs.

In interview McCarthy said he had sourced the class B substance in bulk and that he had shared it among friends.

He said that he had made no profit from the drugs and the cannabis found in his bedroom was for personal use.

The court heard that McCarthy had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and that this was an isolated offence.

Magistrates gave McCarthy a 12-month community order. He must also complete 40 hours unpaid work and pay costs of £185 and an £85 victim surcharge.
