A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Kettering, Northamptonshire, was the victim of a fatal crash which caused major delays on the M5 yesterday (Thursday), police have revealed.

The southbound motorway carriage was closed between junction 10 and 11 from 5.30am to 2.30pm, following the accident in which a 2001 Vauxhall Corsa left the road and crashed into a ditch.

Police said the crash took place some time between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on the Wednesday but the car was not discovered until a lorry driver passing by saw the vehicle at 5.30am the next morning.

A police spokesman said: “Due to the extent of the damage caused by the impact, the car’s battery was disconnected and all electrics in the car stopped working immediately, including the car’s headlights, which meant that they would have gone out and made it very hard to see the car from the main carriageway.

"We are still appealing for anyone who travelled the M5 from the M42 at junction 4a and the Bromsgrove area and who may have dash-cam or in-car video footage during the relevant times to contact us and to submit any footage to us at 101@gloucestershire.police.uk."
